Underwater
When everything below can see me treading water like a spindly water bug in the trout-infested, cool waters of a mountain stream, or when the bottom of the ocean reaches such profound depths as to be literally and metaphorically unfathomable, diving terrifies me. When I submerge, slowly sinking to join this drowned world, fear and anxiety prove water-soluble and I know I'm home.
